The Development of Your Child
How do we keep track of your child's development?
Child Monitoring Systems
We use multiple child monitoring systems that help us track your child’s development and enable you to follow it.
“Mijn Portret”
At Zo Kinderopvang, we utilize the child monitoring system “Mijn Portret,” developed by the Belgian Professor Ferre Laevers. The system is designed to actively involve parents in what is happening at the childcare center and to collaborate more effectively in promoting the child’s development. The focus of using Mijn Portret is to observe how the child feels, what their emotional state is, and how engaged they are in their play. High engagement (good concentration) is a prerequisite for proper development. Completing Mijn Portret at least once a year, by both parents and mentors, serves as the starting point to create the most powerful living environment for each child’s development. Mijn Portret also captures well-being, engagement, and all developmental domains.
“Mijn Paspoort”
For children at the after school Care, Zo has developed its own child monitoring system: “Mijn Paspoort” (My Passport). At least once a year, Mijn Paspoort is filled out by the mentor in collaboration with the child or by the child with the mentor. The passport provides insight into well-being, social development, and a child’s talents. It is also used as a tool for child participation. After completing a passport, parents are invited for a discussion.
“KIJK!”
In many locations in West-Brabant and Tholen, Early Childhood Education (ECE, VVE in Dutch) is offered. Some toddlers receive extra attention at these locations to catch up on (potential) educational delays. These toddlers are indicated as VVE toddlers by the consultation bureau, often due to language development delays. VVE locations use the VVE program and the child monitoring system “KIJK!”. KIJK! is a digital child monitoring system that tracks whether children are catching up on their delays. Similar to other systems, KIJK! first assesses the child’s well-being and engagement, recognizing that a child cannot develop well with low well-being and engagement.
Extra Support Needs
Sometimes we observe an incosistency in a child’s development or behavior, which raises our concern. For example, prolonged hyperactivity or delayed language development. We strive to ensure that all children, including those with a need for extra support, can be accommodated at Zo Kinderopvang. We position ourselves as equal partners in parenting and, from the intake conversation onward, will jointly pursue the same goal with parents: optimal well-being and developmental opportunities for the child. There is a possibility that we may choose to place a child based on a trial period, after which the action plan and placement will be evaluated.
The mentor always discusses concerns about your child with you, and together, we explore ways to improve the situation. Our internal care coordinator (similar to the internal supervisor in primary education) may come to observe the group and support childcare staff in creating and implementing an action plan to reduce or resolve concerns.
